Champions Tennis Is A Fan Favourite

As a break from the seasonal preparations, why not treat yourself to a wonderful day out watching tennis at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. This year’s Champions Tennis takes place from the 6th to 9th December and will feature past champions and icons of the men’s tennis world.

Champions Tennis, formerly the Statoil Masters, is one of the most popular indoor tennis tournaments in the UK; it presents an exhilarating and inspiring conclusion to the ATP Champions Tour which is only played by competitors over 35 years old who have previously been world number 1, competed in a Grand Slam Final or played in a winning Davis Cup team.

From John McEnroe to Pat Cash, Tim Henman to Henri Le Conte and Pete Sampras to Bjorn Borg, this tournament attracts the big names. and they, as much as the crowds, enjoy the magnificence of the occasion.

Arguably, the biggest star of the event is Mansour Bahrami. Since the inaugural tournament in 1997 “The Maestro’s” skilful play, tricks and finesse on court have become legendary and are a must see. From getting the other players to play with imaginary tennis balls to “loosing” a real ball in the lights, he is always having fun.

Tim Henman won Champions Tennis, as a wildcard entry, in 2011, John McEnroe won 4 times between 1997 and 2003 and Fabrice Santoro was victorious in 2012 and 2016.

In 2017, Marat Safin and Juan Carlos Ferrero played the final with Ferrero claiming a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Fabrice Santoro finished in 3rd place.

The organisers have confirmed that Goran Ivanisevic will return to the Champions Tennis in 2018 and further player announcements are expected soon.
