The well-known adage—“To err is human”—justifies mistakes as intrinsic human behavior. While mistakes by human beings are acceptable, living with the same mistakes forever is not. On the surface, boxing seems to be simple: only punches and nothing else.
But, when you will start taking boxing training, you will realize the complexities associated with boxing. And you will start seeing the colors change. When you engage in the activity, you will see yourself making many mistakes as any newbie does. However, there is no need to worry. You can get past your mistakes in no time if you work hard.
So, let us see what mistakes you might commit and, of course, how to rectify those:
Not Training Your Eyes
Since boxing is all about speed, you might tend to close your eyes now and then during practicing. It is something you need to reverse. You should restrict yourself from closing your eyes too often and focus on the moves of your opponent. If you close our eyes too often, you will not be able to figure out the sense of the speed as well as the direction of your opponent.
Proper Breathing
After you join boxing classes, you should focus on your breathing. Never hold your breath when you throw punches. Make sure you breathe in and out while punching. It will help you to generate more power.
Space Between Chin & Shoulders
When you throw a punch at your opponent, you might often leave a space between your shoulder and chin. It is a mistake; you need to avoid, as you would leave your jaw open as a target for your opponent to counter-attack. So, while throwing a punch, always have your shoulder meet your chin.
Elbow Up and Out
You might, especially at the initial stages, lift your elbow to the side as you throw Jabs. It is a mistake. You should rectify it. You make it easier for your opponent to perceive your Jab. So, the best way is to keep your elbow in while you throw your jab. Your opponent will find it difficult to see as well as a counter-attack.
You should, therefore, correct your mistakes and master the boxing skill in the right ways to reap its associated benefits.
