The health New Year’s resolutions you should make

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new year and it’s a new time to be making New Year’s resolutions. Each year, most of us have a sit down and think about what we’d like to change in our lives. It could be anything from avoiding unhealthy habits to exercising more regularly. However, have you ever wondered what our doctors or health experts think we should do?

Let’s have a look to see what health experts think we should add to our New Year’s resolutions list.

Have a good night’s rest:

Having an adequate amount of sleep is vital to maintaining good health, but many of us struggle to fit in a solid eight hours of sleep every night. The experts at House Call Doctor say that if you think eight hours is unrealistic for you, try and go to sleep at least 15 minutes earlier than you usually would. If you keep going to bed earlier over an extended period, eventually you’ll find yourself getting the requisite amount of respite.

Take care of your mental health:

While taking care of our physical health, we can sometimes neglect our mental health, which is just as important. Instead of telling yourself that you’ll be more organised this year, try and fit some down time in for yourself each day. Meditating for 30 minutes each day can help improve the feelings of depression and anxiety.

Splurge on yourself:

You should spend money on yourself. To help this add to your 2019 health goals, after hours doctors say set yourself a challenge – only use money that you’ve saved by forgoing some of your bad habits. Whether it’s alcohol, smoking or fatty foods, if you choose to spend the money on something else, rather than indulging your habit, you’ll more likely to reduce your reliance on that bad habit. Putting away the extra money can also be a huge motivator. Plus, splurging on something nice for yourself once a month will make it feel worth it.
