Doula – the medical professionals who provide support during childbirth

The person who is a medical professional and is the one who gives both emotional and physical support during pregnancy of a woman and child birth is called doula. They are of course not the ones who deliver babies or are responsible to provide medical care. The doula is trained and has passed an examination as to know the ways to help the pregnant women and their families. They are like a support to all of them during this exciting but challenging situation.

Performance of doula

The pregnant women need support during their pregnancy and they can get this from doula. The question arises what is a doula and what do they do? The doula performs different roles that will depend upon your requirements. They are as follows:

  • Labour or birth doulas – They are the ones who provide the pregnant women support constantly during labor.
  • Ante partum doulas – They are the ones who provide complete support to those women who are put on bed rest to avoid preterm labor. They do the house hold tasks and also take care of children.
  • Postpartum doulas – They are trained to support the new mom. During the specific first few weeks after the birth of a child. They care for the mom by helping to feed the baby and also will do the household tasks.

Why to choose a doula?

Once you know what is a doula, the next thing that you would love to do is to choose a doula. This is because they will help you to have a positive and safe birth experience. A doula during labor takes over the coaching in order to give the dad a break. They can also free the dad form the coaching tasks and from remembering all the instructions from the childbirth. Instead the dad can support the other emotionally.
