The gambling business was officially fixed shortly before the country left the USSR. Since 1991, gambling establishments have been licensed by the Ministry of Finance, and the following year, independent Armenia adopted the profit taxation laws. So, with the exception of some changes in taxation, gambling business in the country existed quite freely before the start of 2000.
The first restrictive measures regarding gaming in Armenia came into force in late 2002. Then the casinos were asked to leave Yerevan and other major cities. Since then, the placement of gambling establishments has been subject to zoning.
The most famous in Armenia is Shangri La (Michael Boettcher is the founder of the network), which is 40 minutes from Yerevan. The remaining casinos go from the point of view of popularity with a significant margin. At least, because they are located further from Yerevan.
In recent years, the popularity of the direction has returned thanks to foreign tourists, said Darren Keane, Shangri La.
